We’re at 85 Grattan Street in Carlton, just off Lygon Street. If you can find a parma and a coffee, you can find us. We’re wedged between Melbourne Uni, RMIT, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and about forty seven Italian restaurants. Couldn’t be easier.
Carlton’s one of those suburbs that connects to basically everywhere. Tram it, walk it, drive it, bike it... most of our regulars reckon it takes less time to get here than it does to decide what haircut they actually want.
We get blokes and ladies from all over, but here’s where most of the crew rolls in from.
Home turf. If you live in Carlton and haven’t been in yet, honestly, what are you doing? We’re literally down the road. Pop in on your way to grab a coffee on Lygon.
Straight up Swanston Street or a quick tram and you’re here. Heaps of city workers duck up on their lunch break or after knock off. Beats paying CBD prices, that’s for sure.
Just across Nicholson Street. You could probably throw a stone from Brunswick Street and hit our shopfront. Some of our best mullets come out of Fitzroy, no surprises there.
Hospital workers, uni staff, anyone coming off a long shift at the Royal Melbourne. We’re a five minute walk from the front door. Come in looking cooked, leave looking fresh.
Over the other side of Royal Parade but still a dead easy trip. Whether you’re walking from Errol Street or jumping on the tram, it’s no drama at all.
Plenty of the Brunswick crew come down Sydney Road or Lygon Street to see us. A bit further than the locals but still a pretty cruisy ride. Worth the trip, we reckon.
Not far at all. Duck across from Smith Street and you’re basically here. We see a fair few Collingwood locals in the chairs, especially on Saturdays.
You’re already in Carlton... sort of. Rathdowne Street, Nicholson Street, it’s all within spitting distance. No excuses.
A quick trip down Queens Parade or Hoddle Street and across. Not the most obvious choice on a map but plenty of Clifton Hill regulars have worked it out.
A little further out but we still see a good crew from across the river. If you’re already heading into the city or up to uni, just keep going a few more stops.
Bit of a hike compared to some, but if you work in Docklands and you’re sick of the slim pickings down there, the tram up to Carlton is a straight shot.
Over past the market and across Flemington Road. Not the closest but definitely doable, especially if you’re heading this way for the Lygon Street food anyway.
We’re right next to Melbourne University and RMIT, so we get a tonne of students through the doors. If you’re on campus and need a trim between lectures, we’re closer than the library (and way more fun).
Same goes for the Royal Melbourne Hospital crew. Nurses, doctors, ambos... anyone finishing a shift who wants to feel human again before heading home. We’re a two minute walk from the main entrance.
And for the city workers commuting through Carlton or Parkville, we open at 8am Tuesday to Friday. Get a cut before work and walk in looking like you’ve got your life together. Even if you don’t.
85 Grattan Street, Carlton VIC 3053. Just off Lygon Street, opposite end to the Melbourne Museum. If you hit the Carlton Gardens you’ve gone a touch too far east. If you’re surrounded by hospital buildings you’re a touch too far west. We’re in the sweet spot.
Tram routes 1, 6 and 16 all run nearby. Street parking’s around if you’re lucky. Or just walk, it’s Carlton, everything’s walkable.
From fades to beard trims see what Buddy’s does best.
